Uğur Taş is an artist and instructor who turned to çini after working in oil painting.

Biography

Uğur Taş is an artist and instructor who discovered ceramics after working in painting and other artistic disciplines. Originally from Erzurum, she began her artistic journey with oils and painted in that medium for about ten years. Her relationship with color, pattern, and painting took on a new dimension when she discovered çini. She fell in love with it and has worked in the medium for approximately fifteen years. “Çini became my joy in life,” she says. Throughout those years, she studied extensively with respected teachers. She feels there is still much to learn, discover, and develop, and describes this as perhaps the strongest part of her attachment to çini: each work brings new learning, each pattern a discovery, and each brushstroke a new journey. She continues making and teaching with her students in her own studio.
